Sport Fishing
El Cuchillo Lake
Season: All year long.
The newest big Bass fishing destination in Mexico.
This
beautiful 40,000 acre impoundment is the first and only lake in
Mexico to be designated a state park and as such can only be used
for recreational activities; no commercial fishing is allowed so
there are no nets to impede your fishing or deplete the bass
population. Recent tournaments at the lake have recorded a good
number of ten lbs. + bass being caught.
The climate at El Cuchillo is comfortable year round which also
makes it ideal for groups who choose to visit it during the summer
months. During August the high temperature can reach only the low
90s so you will enjoy long fishing days. This is a catch and release
lake and is not used for irrigation or power so lake levels do not
fluctuate much.
Hotel Hacienda Don Carlos and Cuchillo Water Sports are both located
inside El Cuchillo State Park, which is only 1-hour drive from
Monterrey, is easy to get to, with many a convenient flight away.

El Salto
This is a "You Must Visit" place for Nature-Lovers. A 1,100-acre ecological
reserve, just over two miles south of Zaragoza, where hills and
mountains sorround 'El Salto' (The Jump) and 'Velo de Novia'
(Bride's Veil) waterfalls. It's a great spot for mountain climbing,
camping, mountain biking, fishing, camping, and other outdoor
activities.. There are also cabins for you to spend the night.

Villa de Santiago and Cola de
Caballo About 20 miles south of Monterrey, off to
the right side of the National Highway, is Villa de Santiago
(Saint James Village), a traditional, Mexican colonial-era
village. The streets are still narrow, there is a central
"plaza" with a fountain in the middle, a classical small-village
church right next to the plaza, and some of the streets are even
made of cobblestone. Close to Villa de Santiago is Parque Ecoturístico
Cola de Caballo (Horse Tail Eco-Tourist Park) where a beautiful
80-ft. Waterfall in a stream coming down from the Eastern Sierra
Madre, forming a smooth parabola that resembles a horse’s tail.
This is the perfect spot for having a relaxing picnic surrounded
by exuberant nature.
